The engine bay service

Around one hour, and best booked alongside an exterior or full detail while the vehicle is already with us.

Best value when added to another service. Heavily contaminated bays, oil soaked components or vehicles with known electrical faults are assessed first and may be declined for safety.

Why it matters

Why it is worth doing

It is the cheapest service on our menu and it changes a buyer or an inspector opinion faster than anything else.

Resale value

A clean engine bay signals a maintained vehicle. Private buyers open the hood, and what they see there sets the tone for the whole negotiation.

Spot leaks early

Oil, coolant and power steering weeps are invisible under years of grime. On a clean bay a new leak shows up the week it starts.

Easier servicing

Anyone working on the vehicle, including you, has an easier and cleaner job on a bay that is not caked in road film.

Less heat retention

Thick grease and leaf litter packed around components hold heat. A clean bay runs the way it was designed to.

Done safely

Alternator, fuse box, intake and any exposed electronics are covered before a drop of water goes anywhere near them.

Satin, not greasy

We dress plastics and hoses to a factory satin. A dripping, silicone soaked bay looks cheap and collects dust immediately.

Our process

How we do it without causing damage

01

Cool down

We never spray a hot engine. Thermal shock cracks plastic and can warp components, so the bay is cool before anything begins.

02

Cover

Every sensitive component is covered. This step is the entire difference between a safe engine bay clean and an expensive mistake.

03

Degrease and agitate

Product dwells, then brushes do the work by hand. Pressure is not what removes baked on grime, agitation is.

04

Rinse, dry, dress

Low pressure rinse, compressed air through the connectors, then a satin dressing on plastics and hoses.

Questions

Engine bay questions, answered

What is engine bay detailing?

Engine bay detailing is the controlled cleaning of the area under the hood. Sensitive electrical components are covered, degreaser is applied and agitated, the bay is rinsed at low pressure, then dried and dressed so plastics and hoses return to a factory satin finish rather than a wet shine.

Yes, when it is done with covered electronics, a cooled engine and low pressure water. The damage stories almost always come from someone taking a pressure washer to a hot engine at close range. We cover the alternator, fuse box and intake before any water is used.

Engine bay detailing is $100 and takes about an hour. It is best value added to a full or exterior detail, since the vehicle is already with us and there is no second trip.

We will clean it, but we will tell you first that the result is temporary until the leak is repaired. Cleaning is actually useful in this situation, because it makes the source of the leak visible for whoever is fixing it.

Not at close range. We use a low pressure rinse and let the degreaser and hand agitation do the work. High pressure water forces its way past seals and into connectors, which is exactly what causes electrical faults later.

No, and that is deliberate. A heavily silicone dressed bay looks slick for a week, then attracts every speck of dust and turns streaky. We dress to a factory satin finish, which looks correct and lasts far longer.

Yes. Newer vehicles are generally better sealed than older ones. What we do avoid is any bay where we can see damaged wiring insulation, an aftermarket electrical install we cannot assess, or exposed connectors that should not be exposed. We will tell you if we see that.
