Why it matters

Why hazy headlights matter

This is the one service on our menu that is about seeing, not just being seen.

Real light output

Oxidized lenses scatter light instead of projecting it. Restoration can recover a large share of the beam a new lens would throw.

Night driving safety

Rural Upstate roads without street lighting are where the difference between clear and hazy lenses actually gets dangerous.

Inspection and resale

Yellowed headlights are one of the first things a buyer reads as neglect, and they date a vehicle more than mileage does.

Far cheaper than replacing

A pair of OEM headlight assemblies on a modern vehicle routinely runs into four figures. Restoration is $100.

Sealed, not just polished

Polishing alone looks great for six weeks. The UV sealant is the entire reason the result lasts.

Done at your address

The whole service takes about an hour in your driveway. No shop visit, no waiting room.

Our process

How restoration works

01

Assess and mask

We confirm the haze is on the outside of the lens, not inside, and mask the surrounding paint completely.

02

Wet sand

Progressive grits remove the degraded polycarbonate. This is the step that actually fixes the problem.

03

Polish

Machine polishing takes the sanded surface back to full clarity so the lens projects rather than scatters.

04

Seal

A UV protective coating goes on and cures. Skip this step and the yellowing comes straight back.

Headlight restoration questions, answered

What is headlight restoration?

Headlight restoration is the wet sanding and polishing of oxidized polycarbonate headlight lenses, followed by a UV protective sealant. Sanding removes the yellowed, degraded outer layer, polishing returns optical clarity, and the sealant is what stops the oxidation from returning within months.

Headlight restoration is $100 for the pair and takes about an hour. Fog lights are included where fitted. It is a popular add on to a full or exterior detail since the vehicle is already with us.

Two to three years with the UV sealant applied, depending on how much direct sun the vehicle sees. A car parked outside all day in South Carolina sun sits at the shorter end of that range. Restoration without a sealant, which is what most cheap kits are, starts hazing again within a couple of months.

No. Internal condensation or internal clouding means the housing seal has failed, and no amount of outside work will touch it. That needs the assembly resealed or replaced. We will check before quoting and tell you honestly if that is what you are looking at.

In most cases yes, provided the lens itself is not cracked and the assembly is sound. Restoration substantially improves light output and clarity. If a lens is cracked or the housing is damaged, restoration will not fix it and replacement is the only route.

The sanding and polishing steps are similar. The difference is the sealant and the machine polishing. Most retail kits either omit UV protection or include a wipe on product that fails quickly, which is why kit results usually last weeks rather than years.

On their own is fine. It is a one hour visit and we come to you. That said, most customers add it to a detail because the trip is already made and the front end tends to look inconsistent when the paint is corrected and the lenses are not.
